A Bit About Me

Hi, I'm Fiona!

I want to start by saying thank you for checking out my website, I can't wait to hear about your family tree journey.

I am not your typical genealogist that's for sure and Fill Your Roots is about debunking some of those naughty myths about your family tree and supporting you through the process with a friendly hand and a big smile!

Brought up in the Middle East I had an unconventional upbringing, which is probably why I love working with people so much and learning about everyone else's family stories.

After returning to the UK I lived in Somerset where I spent time working in the banking sector and entertainments industry.

Bored of the 9-5, I left Somerset at 25 and joined the Royal Navy which took me all over the world from Scotland and Dubai to Crete and the Seychelles.

I took a leap of faith in 2014 and moved to Abu Dhabi with my husband returning in 2016 to resume my career in the Royal Navy.... but that didn't quite happen!

In April 2017 I fell pregnant and decided that working for everyone else just wasn't for me anymore.

I knew what I was good at, I knew I could bring value in an industry that had no one like me in it and I know I can bring big change.

Fill your Roots was born and it was the best decision I ever made.

My Volunteer Work

As a member of the Commonwealth War Graves Commision volunteer group "Eyes On Hands On", I combine my two loves of genealogy and military history, into giving back to those who fell in conflict.

"This project is funded by Annington Homes and enables those with an interest in our work to act as our eyes in their local area. Volunteers feedback information about the condition of war graves so our resources are best directed to headstones that need our attention. Volunteers will be able to visit local war grave sites in their area, to conduct inspections and play a vital role in helping us to maintain UK war graves." - CWGC.
